Why do animals have to become extinct because of us humans?

Humans have not been around since the beginning of animal extinction. The dinosaurs almost all went extinct without human intervention, as did numerous species before and after them.

Yes. Most scientist's hypothesize that we are currently living though a mass-extinction. One which will ultimately include the extinction or massive population loss of the human race. According to the Geological Time Scale, we are currently living in the Cenozoic Era. The Cenozoic can be divided roughly into two period's: The Tertiary Period - which is commonly recognised by starting with the extinction of dinosaurs and is otherwise known as the 'Age Of Mammals'. And, The Quaternary Period, which is less known by people because it is ongoing. This is the period which we live in now and scientist's are starting the debate of when to end it and start another period - or maybe even an era or eon. If you take a closer look at the Geological Time Scale, you'll notice that most of the sections have been divided when a mass extinction has occurred.

You can argue global warming or plea that we are in no way part of it - but human's, as much as we don't want to admit it, influence our environments on a huge scale. Sometimes this influence is positive but sadly the majority of these are incredibly negative and impact drastically on the fragile environments and ecosystems in which our fellow members of Earth live in.

In addition to the tremendous habitat destruction caused by clearing forests for animal grazing and to grow feed crops, predators and “competition” species are often hunted because of a perceived threat to industry profits. The use of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers in the production of feed crops interferes with the reproductive systems of animals and poisons waterways. The over-exploitation of wild species through commercial fishing and the “bushmeat” trade, along with animal agriculture’s significant contribution to climate change, all contribute to global extinction of more species than any other cause.
