The species is thought to be at risk from human disturbance of its habitat. Increasing numbers of grazing livestock may be a threat in some areas. Predation by feral cats has recently been identified as a potential threat to some Mongolian populations. Drying of water sources and drought, possibly due to a combination of human activities and climate change.

Why do people have fingers and toes? Why do fish have fins? To survive of course! The Jeroba has long ears to listen for oncoming predators. Without their ears to warn them they could go extinct!

Jerboas have large ears not only to hear predators as said above; but they have large ears for a larger surface area. Due to living in the desert they get overheated easily, however with their ears being so large, the surface area of the jerboa is larger so the heat is spread out and released from the ears to prevent the jerboa from becoming overheated.

Long eared jerboas live in deserts of north Central Asia. This area includes southern Mongolia, the Taklimakan Desert, and other areas of northwest China. These areas are deserts with hot summers but cold winters.
