The two "low level languages" (languages which provide little or no abstraction from the computer's hardware) are Machine Code and Assembler. Machine Code cannot be programmed in directly, so any disadvantages lie in Assembler.

The biggest key problems with Assembler is the incredibly steep learning curve and impracticality for application development. Assembler is appropriate in situations where the program must run extremely quickly or efficiently (such as the software that controls an airplane, robotic arm, or even your digital camera), but not for feature full applications. Otherwise it is very difficult to write complex programs in low level languages.
