I spoke to the one paint dealer I have confidence in and was told yes I can do exactly that i.e. put a latex (not sure about alkyd) two part epoxy coating over my concrete latex floor paint. First I sanded the surface to get a better bond and my next move is to clean the floor.
As a suggestion be sure you have a concrete paint on the floor. If not you could have other problems which I encountered originally i.e. paint not adherring to the concrete in the presence of water.
USE ARMORGUARD EPOXY FLOOR COATING, It will last forever, its 100% Solid, No fillers, ODORLESS and NON TOXIC, Its also made with MICROBAN to prevent mold, mildew or algae, look on www.ecosmartepoxysystems.com for more information
If it appeals to you, you can.
Thinset is a type of blended portland cement used to set tile on a slab or cementboard.the tern "thin" is from the thin bed that the tile is set in. thinset mortar is a blend of portland cement, finely graded sand and a water retention compound that allows the cement to hydrate.there are many different types of thinset out there in grey and white color, multi purpose, polymer modified, non-modified, fast Setting or high quality latex modified thinset mortars like flex, super flex and multi flex thinset.Grout is used to fill the joint in between the tile.there are a few types of grout out there....... * Portland cement based grouts * epoxy-based grouts * furan resin grouts The portland cement based is the most popular. and is made up of graded sand, portland cement, sometimes water retentive additives, and colored pigments.
just latex
Latex is made from the milky or colourless sap of certain plants
Latex comes from the Brazilian Rubber Tree milk..... Laytex is made from latex (rubber tree milk) from which proteins, sugars and water solubles are removed.
To repair a small crack in a cement garage floor use regular cement. Mix the powder with water to form a paste. Apply with a putty knife. Let it dry a little then cover with plastic sheet. You dont want it to dry to fast this may risk future cracking. Sprinkle with drops of water dailey until surface is perfect. Larger cracks use a latex cement.
You can definitely use latex paint over epoxy. In fact, it is recommended to use latex over epoxy by the paint manufacturers, rather than using epoxy over epoxy. The latex adheres better and if you then want to use epoxy next time you paint, you have a nice coat of latex between the layers. If you use epoxy over epoxy, often the paint will just peel off in layers once some time passes (and sometimes right away).
Yes, but it may not stay on very well. Besides, epoxy paints are very hard and wear resistant, while latex paints aren't. If the epoxy paint was needed the first time, repainting with something much less durable might not be such a wise move.
There are several basement floor paint options that can improve the look and durability of the flooring. Some popular choices include epoxy paint, concrete stain, and latex paint. Epoxy paint is known for its durability and resistance to chemicals and moisture. Concrete stain can add color and texture to the floor while enhancing its durability. Latex paint is a more affordable option that can provide a fresh look to the basement floor.
Yes you can.
No, there is nothing for the Epoxy to bond to. The latex is creating a "bond breaker." You will need to use a water based or water born sealer with at least 20% solid acrylic. DO NOT USE solvent based sealers over latex. It will wrinkle the latex.
I would use a latex screed. like cement but with a latex binder, add water pour 5- 10mm on to the concrete and it self levels.Dries in about a day.Put a poylthene membrane down first if damp is a problem
yes
Latex paint can stick to the floor grouting.
The best techniques for painting cement board to ensure a durable and long-lasting finish include: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dirt, dust, or debris. Apply a high-quality primer specifically designed for cement board. Use acrylic latex paint or epoxy paint for the topcoat, as they adhere well to cement board and provide a durable finish. Apply multiple thin coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Consider adding a sealant or topcoat for extra protection against moisture and wear.
Epoxy primer has to go over a bare surface otherwise it can act as a stripper, causing the base coat, along with the newly applied epoxy to delaminate or lift from the surface.
Rubber cement is a type of glue. It is made from elastic polymers such as latex that are then mixed in a acetone solution.
