Not really a good idea. The water over time from the concrete will cause the board damage. If you use a good pad there is no reason you cannot lay the carpet over concrete.

What is sub flooring?

A subfloor is a base floor for main floor like if you are willing to have under floor heating system then a floor is built first then the main flooring is made so basicall base floor of main floor is subfloor. subfloors are generally made from at least two layers of moisture resistant ('AC' grade, one side finished and sanded flat) plywood or composite sheeting.

What is used to install sub-flooring and roof sheathing?

Sub-flooring and roof sheathing are typically installed using plywood or oriented strand board (OSB). These materials provide structural support and a flat surface for flooring and roofing systems. Fasteners such as nails or screws are used to secure the sheets to the underlying joists or rafters, ensuring stability and durability.

What is the four man made timber called?

The term "four man made timber" likely refers to "engineered wood," which includes products like plywood, oriented strand board (OSB), laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and glue-laminated timber (glulam). These materials are created by binding together wood fibers, strands, or veneers with adhesives to enhance strength and stability. Engineered wood is commonly used in construction and furniture due to its versatility and efficiency.

What synthetic materials are used to replace wood?

Synthetic materials used to replace wood include engineered wood products like plywood and oriented strand board (OSB), which are made from wood fibers and adhesives. Additionally, composite materials such as plastic lumber, which is made from recycled plastics, and fiber-reinforced polymers offer durability and weather resistance. These alternatives provide similar aesthetics to wood while often being more sustainable and requiring less maintenance.

What is osb board?

OSB stands for oriented strand board. It is made of wood strands and waterproof adhesives. The strength of OSB board is equal to that of plywood.

Can you put osb board on top of concrete?

No. The only wood that should come into contact with concrete should be pressure treated lumber. You could try fastening down some 1x4's to the concrete (i suggest glue in case you change your mind) in a 16" on center layout and then apply your OSB to that. I think that OSB and basements don't mix. Anything built below grade (ground level) is subject to the consistent temperature of the Earth depending on your location, thus subjecting your new project to condensation which is an enemy to OSB. OSB is like a sponge. If you live in a very arid environment, then go for it and good luck!

Is OSB board waterproof?

OSB board is not waterproof, but it can withstand some moisture if properly sealed or treated.

How many pieces are in a full bundle of 4x8x716 osb strand board?

A full bundle of 4x8x716 OSB strand board typically contains 33 pieces.

Is OSB waterproof?

Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is not waterproof, but it can withstand some moisture if properly sealed or treated.

When was oriented strand board introduced?

Oriented strand board (OSB) was introduced during the 1980s.

Should primer be used on osb board before painting?

Yes, or it will take a lot of paint due to the fact that the osb will soak it up.

What does a sheet of 12 osb weight?

A sheet of 12mm OSB (oriented strand board) typically weighs around 52-56 pounds. However, the weight can vary depending on the specific dimensions and density of the board.

What is the weight of a 1200x2400 sheet of 9mm OSB?

The weight of a 1200x2400 sheet of 9mm OSB (oriented strand board) is approximately 19.3 kg. This calculation is based on the density of OSB, which is about 600 kg/m^3.

Where would you use OSB and what does this stand for?

Used instead of plywood. Oriented Strand Board

What is the best waterproofing method for OSB?

The best waterproofing method for OSB (oriented strand board) is to apply a waterproof sealant or paint specifically designed for use on wood surfaces. This will help protect the OSB from moisture and prevent it from swelling or deteriorating over time.

What is the best way to paint osb board?

Because OSB is porous I would use several coats of latex paint.
