the 'mAh' designation refers to milliamphours. So 10 mAh could mean 10 milliamps delivered over a period of 1 hour, or 1 milliamp delivered over a period of 10 hours.

You should expect the 1500 mAh battery to last 2.5 times as long under the same load conditions as the 600 mAh battery.

I do not know the current load specifications for a cordless phone, but to give an example, let's suppose the phone draws 300 mA while talking.

The capacity of a battery, no matter the size, that is, the ability of the battery to supply electric power (Direct Current) when needed, is expressed in Ampers pert Hour ( amper is the unit of measuring the intensity of the current supplied). If your car's battery is let's say 50AH it means 50 Ampers per Hour that is it can give you constant supply of 50 Ampers and it will empty if you draw for one hour, or it may give you 100 ampers but for half an hour until is emptied or it may give you 200 ampers for a quarter of an hour or 400 ampers for 7,5 minutes, or 800 ampers for 3,75 minutes etc. When you switch on the ignition of your car you draw 350 and more ampers but only for 2 -3 seconds.
