Ready mix concrete machine or in-transit concrete mixers are used in places where it is not feasible to prepare concrete at construction site. For small and medium sized projects the cost of purchasing and storing ingredients of concrete, hiring of labour may not prove worthwhile, in comparison, to the more cost effective, in-transit concrete mixer. Ready mix concrete machine can carry preweighed payload of, sand, gravel, cement and aggregates. They may only require to consume water from a source near the site before they deliver the final product. The payload of an in-transit concrete mixer often consists of sand, gravel, cement(portland or any other) along with optional ad-mixture. To delay the setting time of concrete often retarders are used. The term Ready mix concrete or in-transit concrete mixers are interchangeably used for machines which are used to carry ingredients of concrete in a plastic state to the site.
