No. A starter capacitor is just that....for start up purposes only. It does not control speed....this is done by selecting different phases of the running motor wired individually. Motors that rev up and down are called stepper motors and can be controlled by dedicated operating control boards that constantly monitor amps and load resistance.

Can a rheostat be used to control speed on a capacitor run motor?

No. If you attempt to reduce the voltage to a cap start motor by using a rheostat, you can destroy the motor.

How do you connect capacitor to a capacitor start motor?

A start capacitor is wired in series with the motor's start winding via a centrifugal start switch. The switch disconnects the capacitor and start winding once the motor has reached a pre-determined minimum speed. The motor then continues to run on its main field winding. A different design uses a "start-and-run" capacitor which remains in circuit whilst the motor is running.

Can a capacitor be used to help smooth out inverter surges?

A: YES it can to a point but as speed of surges increases the capacitor will start to behave like a coil

Must a motor with a start capacitor have a relay?

A relay is not essential but larger motors have a relay which operates above a certain speed, to cut out the start capacitor, which improves the power factor and reduces power losses.

What is a split phase motor with relay and capacitor called?

A capacitor start motor is a split phase motor that uses a capacitor in series with the start winding to cause a greater phase shift, resulting in greater starting torque. It uses a centrifugal switch to switch out the start winding and capacitor once the motor is up to speed. I assume this switch is what you're referring to as a "relay".

Can you by-pass a capacitor in an electric motor?

You can not by-pass the capacitor in an electric motor. Most are capacitor-start motors which require the capacitor to be operational in order to start. If the capacitor is not working then it will need to be replaced.

Why the capacitor motor will not develop any starting torque without capacitor?

The start winding needs a capacitor in series with it in order to produce a phase shifted magnetic field that will develop the torque necessary to bring the rotor up to operating speed. Once operating speed it obtained, a centrifugal switch opens and disconnects the start winding - the rotor's inertia can then keep it going as needed.

Can you use a run capacitor in place of a start capacitor?

No

What is the differencebetween a run capacitor and start capacitor?

The run capacitor is used when the load is functional while the start capacitor is used to produce the initial torque to drive the load.

What is the function of a pool motor capacitor and how does it contribute to the operation of a pool motor?

A pool motor capacitor helps start and run the pool motor by storing and releasing electrical energy. It provides the necessary power boost to start the motor and helps maintain a consistent speed during operation. Without the capacitor, the pool motor may struggle to start or run efficiently.

How do i size up a start capacitor?

Read the capacitor that you remove

What is the function of Compressor Start relay?

the start relay helps the compressor start up then takes itself out of play when the compressor gets going. The older units will have a capacitor and a relay mounted in the control panel and the new ones are all in one...you just parallel the run capacitor.
