A variable resistor means that the resistance can be varied, usually by using a slide. A fixed resistor can not be varied.
connect the base of the transistor to a variable resistor and to a normal resistor
A variable resistor usually has three terminals, one of which is connected to the 'wiper' by which means its resistance is measured. By using all three terminals, we can control the potential difference in a circuit. When used in this way, we call the variable resistor a 'potentiometer'. By using two of the three terminals, one of which must be connected to the variable wiper, we can control the current passing through circuit. When used in this way, we call the variable resistor a 'rheostat'.
Rheostat
Connect a variable resistance across DC source (fixed ends of variable resistor or Rheostat) and take decreased DC output across its one fixed terminal and other variable terminal of variable resistor. Other method is connect variable resistor in series with DC output and load, vary the resistance and take decreased DC voltage as required.
Hi, where there is no need of changing the value of resistor then why do you place variable resistor instead a fixed resistor. After all the selection of resistor depends on the cause of use in application. by the way wide range of resistor values are avilable in the market. if the application requires tuning operation then variable resistor is need to be mounted. nothing is mandatory unless the application requires. If you have a light switch where you can brightener it or dim it that is a VARIABLE RESISTOR.
yes, a variable resistor
Variable resistor is an resistor that can change its resistance manually, by rotating a handle or a screw.
its the colour of the fixed and the variable we define it by its power and name
The volume knob on an audio device (radio, TV) is an example of a variable resistor. A variable resistor is also known as a potentiometer.

Variable resistor. The value of the variable resistor can be changed at any given moment.
A variable resistor diagram illustrates how a resistor can change its resistance value, allowing for adjustable control of electrical current in a circuit.
