Rigid insulation by DOW makes many different types of insulation, most have a foil side which should be glued to the concrete while the colored side with logos on it will face out ready for walls to be framed and sheetrock to be hung.

Do you have to encase rigid and PVC conduit in concrete that has high voltage wires from a transformer?

If you are talking about the primary wires to the transformer then yes they have to be encased in concrete.

How do you install rigid insulation?

Cut panels of rigid insulation slightly smaller than openings. Fill in gaps around rigid panels with liquid nails or any brand of construction adhesive caulking that is compatible with stryrofoam (polystyrene) or polyurethane foam, depending on what type of rigid foam you purchased. I prefer polyurethane foam and seal the perimeter edges with Great Stuff spray foam or DAP latex spray foams. That way you don't have any heat leaks around the edges of the rigid foam even if the rigid panel is between warped rafters or studs.

What is PEF insulation?

PEF insulation, or Polyurethane Foam insulation, is a type of insulation made from a polymer that provides excellent thermal resistance and energy efficiency. It is known for its high R-value per inch, which means it offers superior insulation properties compared to other materials. PEF insulation can be applied in various forms, including rigid panels and spray foam, making it versatile for different construction applications. Additionally, it helps reduce energy costs by minimizing heat transfer in buildings.

What kind of insulation is best for basement walls?

The best insulation to use is spray foam, although it is an expensive option. Another option that is less expensive is 1" rigid foam board. Both of these options eliminate the need for tar paper or a vapour barrier as they are self-sealing applications. Avoid using batt insulation w/vapor barrier in basement applications as condensation may occur which will encourage mould growth.

How do you fur out a concrete block wall?

If the block wall is relatively plumb, you can use 2x2 or 2x3 wood furring strips. Personally, I use Tapcon brand screws to hold the strips. I recommend a decent corded hammer drill if this is a large project to pre-drill the holes, though. You can also use metal furring strips (hat channels), which may be preferable in basement situations. If the wall is above grade and insulation is an issue, I would just frame out the wall with 2x4's or 2x6's so you can get full-width insulation between the studs. Otherwise, the best you can do is 1 1/2" rigid (which should be fine for below grade basement walls).

The best insulation for concrete basement walls is rigid foam insulation. It provides high R-value, moisture resistance, and is easy to install.

How can I effectively insulate concrete walls?

To effectively insulate concrete walls, you can use rigid foam insulation boards or spray foam insulation. These materials can be installed directly onto the concrete walls to provide a barrier against heat transfer. Additionally, you can also consider adding a vapor barrier to prevent moisture buildup. Proper insulation can help improve energy efficiency and maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
