This highly depends on the temperature and the conditions. Heatshields for a space craft are made from lightweight ceramics, suitable for temperatures well above 1000 deg. C. Heat shields for use in more common applications, like a car exhaust system, are made from sheeth-metal. The choice of the metal or alloy being dependent on the environmental conditions.
Yes, shields are still used today, primarily in law enforcement and military contexts. Modern shields are often made from advanced materials like Kevlar or composite plastics and are designed for protection against various threats, including projectiles and melee attacks. Additionally, shields are utilized in some sports, historical reenactments, and by certain security personnel for crowd control and personal defense.
Better heat transfer than natural convection. When compared to water or liquid cooled heat exchangers, the argument could be made that air is a cheaper cooling medium.
Manufactured Boards are man-made boards and are made by applying heat and pressure. The boards are made up of layers which are glued together and compressed with a huge amount of heat and pressure. Most riot shields list the material of construction as Lexan, the trade name for the polycarbonate polymer. The young's modulus of polycarbonate is 2.0-2.4 GPa (gigapascals).
No. Implants are tested with high heat and pressure. They are safe because they are made of silicone.
Simple shields made of wood.
No
It shields the rest of the car from the heat of the exhaust or radiator .
The Aztecs shields were made out of feathers and other fine materials. These shields also included precious metals like gold.
Spaceships are provided with heat shields to protect them during exit and reentry of the earth's atmosphere. If they didn't have these shields, the ship would burn up.
Heat shields can be purchased in any computer electronics store. Best Buy, Future Shop, Canada Computers, New Egg, NCIX, and The Source all sell heat shields.

As a spacecraft enters the atmosphere, it will travel at a tremendously high speed. The friction from the air rubbing against the spacecraft causes lots of heat. To protect against this heat, spacecraft use heat shields. Most spacecraft use blunt, spherical, or conic heat shields which help slow the vehicle down, and dissipate the heat in the surrounding air. These heat shields are also usually made out of abalative material. Abalative materials sublimate into gas at high temperature. As a result, they absorb thermal energy but erode away as the vehicle enters the atmosphere. However modern spacecraft are being developed to have re-usable heat shields. The Space Shuttle, in particular, uses a series of thermal insulating tiles that absorb and radiate heat while preventing conduction to the shuttle's aluminum skin. These tiles can be re-used many times.
