It depends on the mineral that you are seeking and the equipment that you can afford. Is there water nearby or are you prospecting in a desert environment.? The laws of a given area that you are working in also come into play. For example, many ststes limit the dredge nozzle size that you can use in most rivers or close the river to dredging altogether.
