pumps generally are of 2 types.
centrifugal and reciprocating pumps.
centrifugal pump
The principle involved in these working of pumps is they act by centrifugal force.when water enters into pump along with air the pumping element starts starts rotating and as a result water is thrown to the side walls by centrifugal force and as a result water loses its velocity and since energy is neither created nor destroyed it s velocity converts into pressure head and this is pumped outwards with high pressure and then it again attains max velocity and comes out of pump.
reciprocating pump
while in these pumps the pumping element is piston rods.these also contains valves which control inward and outward flow of water.if it contains 2 valves it is called single valved and if it is contains 4 valves ,called double valved .it acts based on pressure head.
its working;
when water enters into pump the pumping element is allowed to draw backward or forward.since it is attached at one of its end if we drag this element to backward air also been dragged backward as result decrease in pressure occurs then water enters intom pump through one valve,
pumpwill be cylindrical shape and at bottom length of cylinder 2 valves will be placed.while at upper length of cylinder there placed 2 valves which are opposite to bottom length of valves.water enters into pump first through 1st valve at bottom length,.while valve opposite to this will no discharge water because of absence of pressure.so then if we push pump again forward pressure will be more in left side while less in right of u.so water moves to right of pump and again if we move this piston to right pressure increases again on right and water been pushed to out at valve present at upper length of cylinder.
note;the pump is placed horizontally that is facing its two lengths each other.
thus water pumps works.
Irrigation pumps work by drawing water from a source such as a well, river, or reservoir and then pumping it through a system of pipes or channels to irrigate agricultural fields or gardens. The pumps use either centrifugal force or positive displacement to increase the pressure and force the water through the system. Some pumps are powered by electricity, while others may run on gasoline or diesel engines.
by moving of motor
Generally pumps work on principle of vaccum.
A well is basically a hole drilled deep into the ground until it reaches an aquifer, which is a body of rock that transmits water. Wells with electric pumps pump the water through pipes to it's destination.
beam engine
you push the lever and it pumps out water Bobwillis83

can water pumps stall vehicles
Yup. I do have. I have gear pumps, water pumps, diaphragm pumps, vacuum pumps and blowers, submersible pumps, centrifugal pumps and filters.
As the name suggests submersible pumps work underneath the surface of the earth. Unlike regular pumps they push water or other liquids to the surface instead of sucking it up from above the surface.
Shakti Pumps is a leading water pumps & motors supplier in USA. As India's leading manufacturer of energy efficient pumps, we are well-known in our industry.
The pumps used to remove water from flooded areas are typically called "submersible pumps" or "drainage pumps." These pumps are designed to operate underwater and can effectively remove large volumes of water from basements, construction sites, or other flooded locations. Depending on the specific application, they may also be referred to as "sump pumps" or "trash pumps" if they can handle debris-laden water.
Hot water recirculating pumps work by circulating hot water from the water heater to the fixtures in a building, such as sinks and showers, through a looped pipe system. This helps to keep hot water constantly available at the fixtures, reducing the time it takes for hot water to reach them and saving water that would otherwise be wasted while waiting for hot water to flow.
Solar water pumps are used to pump water with the help of electricity generated through photo voltaic cells. This solar pumps can be used for irrigation in small fields, water supply for small villages, schools, hospitals, and homes. To more about solar water pumps check out SunEdison Infra
They pump cool water.
water pumps are fairly cheap ,,, i got mine on eBay brand new for £24
Before humans used electrical motors to operate pumps to pump water from the ground, the pumps were mechanically operated, via hand (hand pumps), wind (windmill pumps), etc.
