First you need to find out where the water is coming from. If the block or cement walls are exposed, tape a 12 inch by 12 inch piece of aluminum foil to one of the outside walls (tape all 4 sides sealing the aluminum foil to the wall). After a day or 2 remove the aluminum foil from the wall. If the inside of the aluminum foils is damp but the back side (the side against the block or cement wall) is dry you have a condensation problem and good dehumidifier should solve the problem.

If the block or cement wall side of the aluminum foil is wet but the inside is not you have a seepage problem. The water on the outside of the wall builds up until the hydrostatic pressure is great enough and the water then seeps through the block or enters where the floor and wall meet. This can be solved by using an above floor baseboard system to drain the water to a sump pump or drain. Waterproof.com has an above floor basement waterproofing system that you can install yourself for around $4 per foot.

What is basement waterproofing?

Basement waterproofing refers to the process of making a basement or cellar water-resistant. It involves various techniques and methods that are used to prevent water from penetrating into the basement and causing damage to the foundation and walls of the building. Some of the common methods of basement waterproofing include installing a sump pump, sealing cracks and gaps in the walls and floor, installing drainage systems, and applying waterproof coatings or membranes. These methods are designed to redirect or prevent the entry of water into the basement and protect the structure from water damage. Basement waterproofing is important because water damage can lead to structural problems, mold growth, and other health hazards. By preventing water from entering the basement, homeowners can ensure that their property remains safe and secure.
