The battery door is at the bottom of the camera just below the little box (front) with THE SHARPER IMAGEin it ,and opens easily ...if you know the trick. (The tripod mount is in the bottom of the door.) using your thumb, press down on the tripod screw hole and push on the door from the front of the camera toward the rear and the door pops open. Reverse the procedure to close.
