I think petroleum engineering has to do with the discovery of crude oil[hydrocarbons] in it's dark,sticky,viscous stage and lifting it to the surface and passing it to the refineries for the extraction of other components viz petroleum gases,petrol,kerosene . No! Although it might bring up a temporary shine, oil is a petroleum-based product and petroleum ultimately destroys paint. (Think in terms of gasoline and paint remover.)
That'll probably depend on how hard you look. Don't think there are any deliberately added. But it's heavily processed with machinery, and machines need lubrication. Which might be petroleum based. Tiny, tiny amounts of that lube MIGHT make it's way into the food.
