Answer Usually by heating the metals so they become molten and adding other metals and compounds. However, if you study history, you find that early black-smiths and sword-smiths developed Steel alloy in their ovens without completely melting the metal. The would heat the wrought iron in hot coals to soften the metal. Then folded the iron over and pounded it, then re-heated it and repeated the process. The carbon in the coal ashes introduced carbon into the iron, transforming it into Steel. When they cole-quenched it, the iron molecules expand enough that the carbon molecules enter into the matrix. When it was cooled rapidly, the carbon would be captured in the steel.

What word is used to describ a metal made by combining other metals?

I think you're looking for "an alloy." According to the Wikipedia page, "An alloy is a partial or complete solid solution of one or more elements in a metallic matrix." But as I've learned in a non-scientific sense, when you melt a bunch of metals and mix 'em together, you've got an alloy.

Why a metal alloy behaves differently to a pure metal?

A metal alloy behaves differently than a pure metal because the different chemical properties of the metals in an alloy both contribute to the alloy's properties. Certain alloys may be stronger than the original metals because one metal may fill a "gap" in the other's structure. Of course, other properties besides strength are also changed in an alloy.

What type of alloy metals are made of bismuth alloy?

Alloys are obtained by melting the base metal with the alloying components.

What makes steel shiny?

it is an alloy of various metals which make it shiny

Explane in your own words what an alloy and describe its significance in the manufacturing of metallic products?

An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals, or a metal and another element, which is created by melting and combining them. It is significant in the manufacturing of metallic products because it can enhance the properties and characteristics of metals. By alloying different metals, manufacturers can create materials with improved strength, corrosion resistance, durability, and other desired features. Alloys are widely used in various industries, ranging from construction and automotive to electronics and aerospace.
