A core in fiber optics is a single strand of fiber. It forms one half-duplex channel, where one transmitter can send data to one receiver. In order to form a full-duplex channel, two cores or strands are required. Many fiber optic cables contain many cores organized in many bundles.
Narinder Kapany was born in Punjab, India and educated in England. He invented optical fibre and is called "Father of Fibre Optics".
Engineering is basically applied science. There are lots of jobs in engineering; many of them have "engineering" as part of their name; some don't. Examples include work in computer hardware, computer programming, architecture, economics, and many others. The Wikipedia article "List of engineering branches" lists quite a few, but there are probably more, or you can break them up into more branches. Please note that any study and work in engineering will require a lot of mathematics and science. Some people like that; some don't.
Fiber optics is quicker and has higher bandwidth but for long distances requires more infrastructure (but it is on the planet so is more easily repaired).Satellite communications is slower with lower bandwidth and noticeable delays, the long range capability is greater but parts of the infrastructure (the satellites) are very expensive to replace and repair.
Three ways that you can use fiber optics are: Cable Television, Computer Networking, Electronics Engineering

The study of how light behaves is called optics. It involves the behavior and properties of light, including reflection, refraction, diffraction, and interference. These principles are used in various fields such as physics, engineering, and astronomy.

That is a very accomplished engineer because he is trained in electronics, optics, and mechanical engineering. That covers a lot of ground and is very specialized.

No specific college in India for weopen engg. It's a combination of certian streams of engg. Those are- Mechanical engineering Electrical engineering Mechatronics Electro-optics Materials engineering Chemical engineering Master yourself in One or say two and then one can join DRDO for research work. Join Indian army through technical entry services may also help. All the best!
You can grab MEMS for electrical engineering degree at the University of California, San Diego electrical engineers are building a forest of tiny trees in order to nanowire cleanly capture solar energy and harvest it for hydrogen fuel generation.
