To the consumer, the cost to recycle plastic is often slightly higher than the cost to dispose in a landfill. In any case, the cost is +/- 0-15 cents per plastic bottle. The additional cost may be a small fee the recycler imposes to collect the plastic, or the cost and time required to transport consumer plastic to a recycler if curbside pickup is unavailable. In cases where consumers are actually paid something to recycle plastic, this incentive is usually subsidized by a government agency, paid from collected taxes. So consumers are effectively paying themselves to recycle; they are also paying administrative costs.

The costs to manufacturers are roughly equal to use recycled versus newly manufactured plastic once collection and sorting costs are factored in. The real benefit of recycling plastics is that the process uses less energy, less raw materials, and puts less non-biodegradable material in landfills. This results in less of a burden placed on future generations in exchange for our present convenience of using and disposing plastic.

Why is plastic foam good at reducing heat loss?

It fills in spaces where air can penetrate and your conditioned air can escape. It is also great for keeping insects from entering your home.

What fills the void when oil is pumped out of the ground?

Groundwater, but also bear in mind that there is a possibility that the sediments could compact further as the oil is removed (in which case the "voids" would collapse - or rather never form).

How does extracting plastic affect the environment?

Plastic is made from polymers derived from oil and other natural sources as well as recycled plastic. Since it is not a natural resource, as are stone or coal, it cannot be extracted by mining or pumping it from a reservoir. About 'extracting plastic from the environment' -is this finding and removing plastic which is in garbage or litter from the environment and the effects of this action? If so, the type of plastic and the environment it was removed from will have differing impacts on the environment. Each of these situations would have a different impact as to location, type of environment, urban or rural, wildlife affected, human population affected, agriculture or livestock changes etc. I will add a short description of potential impacts. 1. Removing plastics from a landfill that contains mixed garbage. This disrupts the surface and exposes buried plastic and other material to surface weathering. The environmental impact depends on what is done to sort and use the plastic and how the area is restored. 2. removing plastic bags, containers and bits from the ground and from places where the wind has carried the plastic This reduces the amount of plastic that animals and people come in contact with. Big piles in waterways may disrupt flow. Bags of noxious fills may leak into water/ soil. Since animals that eat plastic or become entangled in plastic are likely to die, removing the plastic would end this. Removing bags of waste and plastic requires that something be done with the recovered material and that the pollution from these before removal be cleaned up. It may take a great deal of work and energy to complete this task; this is also an impact on the environment. 3. removing plastic from beaches and freshwater lakes This is of great benefit to fish and birds by reducing their risk of eating or getting entangled in plastic; it would increase fish harvest and promote bird reproduction. 4. removing plastic from the ocean, especially from the big plastic accumulation in the pacific ocean. Its is not clear what the effect of fine to coarse plastics have when floating in the ocean, other than oceanic birds eat plastic and then die of malnutrition. On the whole, my best guess is that the environment would be able with active restoration to return to the state it had before plastic was invented, if all other conditions are held constant. When do people recycle?

People recycle when they choose to dispose of items such as paper, plastics, glass, and metals in designated recycling bins or centers rather than in the regular trash. Recycling helps to reduce waste sent to landfills, conserve natural resources, and decrease pollution. Many people recycle regularly as part of their daily routines to benefit the environment.

Does plastic break down easy in land fills?

no

Why should we recycle plastic bottles?

Recycling plastic means that the plastic is reused to make more plastic things. This saves energy and stops the litter of plastic which is destroying killing birds and animals, especially marine animals.Landfills are full of discarded plastic bottles. Many cities are running out of suitable places to store their garbage. We have to stop this. Many plastic bottles float out to sea where they break down into smaller pieces. Birds, turtles and fish eat these pieces of plastic and die. Here's an excellent video "The Story of Three Plastic Bottles"

Why is the plastic cups is only fills one half of ice cream mix?

Because you are crazy :))

What is a niche in the environment?

A niche is place that a species fills. Plants fill a niche as herbivores eat them. Bacteria fill a niche as they decompose dead animals and help recycle them.

What happens when you don't recycle?

When you don't recycle, materials that could be reused or repurposed end up in landfills, taking up limited space and contributing to environmental pollution. Recycling helps conserve natural resources, reduce energy consumption, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, so not recycling can have negative impacts on the environment and contribute to climate change.

How is plastic production a problem?

Plastic fills our dumps, homes and seas. Plastic contamination negatively affects untamed life: In excess of 700 species, including ocean turtles, fish and whales, gobble plastic or get messed up in it. Plastic will before long offset all the fish in the ocean, and it's in our drinking water and on our plates.

What is green plastic?

Green plastic refers to plastic items that are made using sustainable methods and materials, often with a focus on reducing environmental impact. This can include using biodegradable/compostable materials, recycled plastics, or creating products that are easily recyclable. Green plastic aims to minimize harm to the environment compared to traditional plastic production processes.

Short note of recycle bin?

Recycle bin is an icon on the Windows desktop that represents a directory where deleted files are temporarily stored. This enables you to retrieve files that you may have accidentally deleted. From time to time, you'll want to purge the recycle bin to free up space on your hard disk. You can also configure Windows so that it doesn't use the recycle bin at all, but then you won't be able to retrieve accidentally deleted files. Items in the Recycle Bin remain there until you decide to permanently delete them from your computer. These items still take up hard disk space and can be undeleted or restored back to their original location. When it fills up, Windows automatically cleans out enough space in the Recycle Bin to accommodate the most recently deleted files and folders.
