Marshall stability test is a three phase exam designed to determine the strength of an asphalt cylinder.

At the first step, a 1kg asphalt premix is made into 10cm diameter cylinder using a hammer compactor. Usually three cylinders are made.

The hammer hits the cylinders 50 or 75 times (depending on the type of the road, e.g. highway, parking, etc) on each side, from a set height.

Then, the cylinder is weighted in water and air, then kept in 60C water for 30 minutes.

At the third step the cylinders are broken to see at under what weight they give out. The number is multiplied by the correlation factor, derived from the data gathered in step 2.

This test is used only to check the strength of asphalt cylinder cores, and not to determine other asphalt properties like friction or rejuvenation of thin coatings.

How many cubic yards in a 80lb bag of concrete?

Imagine a cube 3' x 3' x 3' . that is a cubic yard. I believe a bag is 1/3 of a yard. No It's less than that one 94 lb bag of Portland cement is one cubic foot. And there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard ( 3*3*3 = 27) so an 80 lb bag of premix is a little less than 1/27th

What is deference between cut back bitumen and bitumenemulsion?

Cutback Bitumen : Normal practice is to heat bitumen to reduce its viscosity. In some situations preference is given to use liquid binders such as cutback bitumen. In cutback bitumen suitable solvent is used to lower the viscosity of the bitumen. From the environmental point of view also cutback bitumen is preferred. The solvent from the bituminous material will evaporate and the bitumen will bind the aggregate. Cutback bitumen is used for cold weather bituminous road construction and maintenance. The distillates used for preparation of cutback bitumen are naphtha, kerosene, diesel oil, and furnace oil. There are different types of cutback bitumen like rapid curing (RC), medium curing (MC), and slow curing (SC). RC is recommended for surface dressing and patchwork. MC is recommended for premix with less quantity of fine aggregates. SC is used for premix with appreciable quantity of fine aggregates.Bitumen Emulsion : Bitumen emulsion is a liquid product in which bitumen is suspended in a finely divided condition in an aqueous medium and stabilized by suitable material. Normally cationic type emulsions are used in India. The bitumen content in the emulsion is around 60% and the remaining is water. When the emulsion is applied on the road it breaks down resulting in release of water and the mix starts to set. The time of setting depends upon the grade of bitumen. The viscosity of bituminous emulsions can be measured as per IS: 8887-1995. Three types of bituminous emulsions are available, which are Rapid setting (RS), Medium setting (MS), and Slow setting (SC). Bitumen emulsions are ideal binders for hill road construction. Where heating of bitumen or aggregates are difficult. Rapid setting emulsions are used for surface dressing work. Medium setting emulsions are preferred for premix jobs and patch repairs work. Slow setting emulsions are preferred in rainy season.

What is the density of premix asphalt per metric ton?

The density of premix asphalt typically ranges from 2.2 to 2.4 metric tons per cubic meter. This means that 1 cubic meter of premix asphalt would weigh between 2,200 to 2,400 kilograms. To calculate the density per metric ton, you would divide the density range by 1,000, resulting in a density of 2.2 to 2.4 metric tons per cubic meter.

How much cubic meter is 1 ton of premix?

The volume of 1 ton of premix can vary depending on its density, which is influenced by the specific materials and their moisture content. On average, premix concrete has a density of approximately 2,400 kg/m³. Therefore, 1 ton (1,000 kg) of premix would typically occupy about 0.42 cubic meters. However, it's important to check the specific density of the premix being used for a more accurate conversion.
