I guess it depends on whether it's sealed or not.

If it's open to the atmosphere how can it be under pressure ?

If it's sealed it could be put under (positive or negative) pressure so would be, by definition, a pressure vessel IMHO.

What is receiver safety relief valve?

A receiver is normally some kind of pressure vessel the pressure inside the vessel/tank became too high the structure could fail"poss with dire consequenses".Therfore a safety valve is fitted to release internal pressure at a pre set figure set below the critical or dangerous pressure level that the receiver is designed for. This is usually reffered to as the SWP,or safe working pressure. Mike Webster.

What is Maximum Allowable Working Pressure Calculations?

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code details all the various calculations necessary to determine the MAWP of any pressure vessel.

What is the function of the expansion vessel?

To absorb the expansion volume of the water in the circuit after it is heated. This in turn stops the pressure rising to excessive levels which could cause system damage. An expansion vessel is a small tank that is used to protect water heating systems from excessive amounts of pressure. They can also be used to protect the cooling systems of internal combustion engines.

ASME U stamp?

An ASME "U" stamp designates a vessel as a "pressure vessel" as defined and regulated by ASME codes

What is the minimum design pressure in ASME sec viii?

ASME Section XIII does not define a minimum design pressure. Many vessels are designed for full vacuum according to the requirements of the code. A storage tank (API 650 or API 620) can be used in place of a pressure vessel provided that the gage pressure is not more than 15 pounds per square inch.

What is the difference between a tank and vessel?

A tank is designed to hold the maximum hydrostatic pressure at the base -- based on the depth of the tank, the density of the material it holds, and maximum atmospheric pressure (with added margin for safety). A tank wall may be constructed with 'thicker' material at the base and 'thinner' material at the top, to save cost. The top of the tank need only support its own weight (plus safety margin). A pressure vessel must withstand the rated pressure at all points around the surface of the vessel.

What is a flash tank?

A flash tank is a vessel used in industrial processes to separate a high-pressure liquid stream into a low-pressure gas stream and a liquid stream. It works by allowing the high-pressure liquid to expand rapidly, causing some of it to vaporize. The vapor is then separated from the liquid and used for other purposes.

What is the Pressure exerted by water freezing in an enclosed vessel?

When water freezes in an enclosed vessel, it expands and exerts pressure on the vessel walls. This pressure depends on factors such as the volume of water, rate of freezing, and strength of the vessel. Generally, this can lead to the vessel cracking or bursting if the pressure becomes too high.

How does a vessel implode and what are the factors that contribute to this phenomenon?

A vessel implodes when the pressure inside the vessel becomes greater than the pressure outside, causing it to collapse inward. Factors that contribute to this phenomenon include a sudden change in pressure, structural weaknesses in the vessel, and the material properties of the vessel.

Name three things you should do while filling the fuel tank of your vessel?

How do you calculate the weight of an empty pressure vessel?

To calculate the weight of an empty pressure vessel, you can determine the volume of the vessel and then multiply it by the density of the material from which the vessel is made. This will give you the mass of the vessel, which you can then convert to weight by multiplying it by the acceleration due to gravity.

What are the main purpose of pressure vessels?

The main purpose of a pressure vessel is to hold gases or liquids at a pressure inside a container different to the pressure outside of the pressure vessel. Usually pressure vessels are made from steel.
