A passive element is an element of the electrical circuit that does not create power, like a capacitor, an inductance, a resistor or a memristor.
In a passive circuit, the current will decrease. In an active industrial circuit, it will usually decrease. In a theoretic manner - it is an unknown.
it is not a passive device .y because it is used to amplify the voltage and current .so as according to the definition of active device is the device which is used to amplify the current r voltage .hence transistor is a active device.
Basically they are of 2 types 1) Active filter - For low voltage network 2)Passive filter
A capacitor is passive like a resistor is passive it performs no active amplification.
Passive is to change as active is to affect.
Ohm's Law states that, for a passive element, V (the voltage drop) is proportional to I (the current in the component), and the proportional constant is R (the resistance). Namely, V = R * I. For DC operations in a passive element, Ohm's Law is dealing with scalar quantities. For AC, V and I become vectors (phasors) for Ohm's Law to be valid. A passive element is an electrical component that does not have gain, voltage gain or current gain. Examples are resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, and Transformers. An active element is one that has gain. Examples are transistors (MOSFET, bipolar, and JFET). A solar cell is an active element. Although Ohm's Law does not apply to transistors, the Law still can apply to the passive components of transistors, if we represent the transistor with passive elements and active elements. ======================================
Passive element. An active element is an element that can generate power. Capacitors can't generate power, hence they are passive elements.
it is a active component.

ACTIVE COMPONENTS The components which produce the energy in the form of current or voltage are called as active components. Example:transistors etc,. PASSIVE COMPONENTS The components which stores the energy in the form of current or voltage are called as passive components. example:inductors, resistors, capacitors etc,. If I divide the term into words as (Passive + Linear + Bilateral ) Network then it would be easier to understand. 1st of all, Passive Network is a network that includes **passive electrical / electronic components. Then, Linear Network is consists of passive electrical / electronic components whose parameters such as resistance, capacitance or inductance are constant with respect to current or voltage and in such network each voltage or current source act independently of each other. After that, Bilateral Network is the network in which the magnitude of current remains the same when the voltage polarity is reversed. So, A Passive linear bilateral network includes passive components that exhibit linearity and at the same time magnitude of current is independent of the polarity of voltage. ** Passive electronic components are Resistor, Inductor or Capacitor, they by themselves are not capable of amplifying or processing an electrical signal.
