Though this theoretically could work on a very few power tools, it is NOT a good idea and most likely doing it will only wreck the tool (or the dimmer switch). And why would you want to lower the voltage anyway?

An electric dimmer switch for lights could raduce the light output by?

An electric dimmer switch for lights can reduce the light output by adjusting the amount of electrical current flowing to the light bulb. By decreasing the current, the dimmer switch can lower the brightness of the light emitted.

Where is the dimmer switch on a 1993 BMW 325is?

The 1993 BMW 325 dimmer switch is located on the lower left-hand side of the dashboard. The dimmer switch is a dial switch.

Were is the dimmer switch on a 2001 Monte Carlo?

The dimmer switch, on your 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is located on the lower left hand portion of the dashboard. The dimmer switch is just below the heat vent.

Why do halogen bulbs flicker on a dimmer?

Halogen bulbs flicker on a dimmer because dimmer switches are designed for use with incandescent bulbs, not halogen bulbs. The electrical properties of halogen bulbs, such as their lower resistance when dimmed, can cause flickering when used with dimmer switches not specifically designed for them. Upgrading to a dimmer switch that is compatible with halogen bulbs can help eliminate the flickering.

What causes a dimmer switch to heat up?

Lower levels of light are what causes the dimmer switch to heat up. The extra electricity that is not being used when the light is lowered is sent to the circuitry of the dimmer switch. The heating up is normal.

Why do bulbs get dimmer in series circuits?

When light bulbs are connected in series circuits, they will get dimmer whenever a bulb is added. This is because the current is shared between all of the bulbs equally.AnswerLamps only operate at their rated power when subjected to their rated voltage. If you connect lamps in series, each lamp will be subject to a lower voltage, so they will not operate at their rated power and, so, will be dimmer. The more powerful lamps will actually glow less than the less-powerful lamps because their resistance is lower and the voltage drop across them will also be lower than the voltage drop across the less powerful lamps.

What does a dimmer reduce volts or amps?

Voltage. A dimmer usaly chops the sine wave, leting it pass after a while.Another answerThe dimmer effectively becomes another device in the circuit. It effectively becomes a series circuit, therefore the voltage to the dimmed lights will be reduced in proportion with the relative position of the dimmer switch. HOWEVER...there is such a thing as "pulse width modulation" dimmers. They are typically used for devices that need full voltage but but you need to reduce output... such as fluorescent lights some fans and many other motors. Most dimmers are resistance type dimmers since the pulse width modulation dimmers are far more expensive.

What did you do to make light bulbs glow dimmer?

To make light bulbs glow dimmer, I reduced the amount of electricity flowing to them by using a dimmer switch or a lower wattage bulb. This decrease in electricity causes the filament in the bulb to emit less light, resulting in a dimmer glow.

What happens inside a voltmeter when you switch it from a lower to a higher voltage range?

When you switch a voltmeter from a lower to a higher voltage range, an additional resistor is added in series with the meter, increasing the voltage necessary to create the same voltage drop across or current flow through the actual meter movement.

How do you replace dimmer switch on Chevy Celebrity?

To replace the dimmer switch on your Celebrity: 1. Remove the lower cover panel that runs under the dash. 2. Remove the trim panel under the steering column. 3. Remove the nuts/bolts that hold the steering column up. If your car has column shift disconnect the string leading to the shift indicator. 4. Lower the steering column. It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel. 5. The dimmer switch is on the side of the column below the ignition switch. 6. Disconnect the wire harness from the dimmer switch. Take out the screws and the switch will come off of the column. Note how it goes on the operating lever. Reverse the procedure to install the new dimmer switch. Check its operation before raising the steering column back in place.

Why do I not have dash board lights at night in 2002 Suzuki XL 2002?

Two possible reasons: the fuse is blown, or the dimmer dial/switch is shorted. The dash light fuse is in the fuse panel and is easily changed. It's probably the dimmer dial/switch on the lower dashboard near the driver's knee. At least that's where it is on the 2006. Pop the switch out with a screwdriver and replace it with new one or with one from an auto wrecker (recycler.)
