You need at least 5 Gcse passes, possibly 7 for dentistry. The grades of these GCSE's also need to be A-C in some universityies in other universities they will expect you to have at leat 6 A/A*'s in your GCSE. These are: sciences (mainly biology and chemistry). You will also need to have got at least a C, possibly a B, in maths and English. GCSE results in 2013 were released on August 22nd. This date is typically when students receive their results for the exams taken in the summer of that year.

Barring unforeseen circumstances. To within a few days, depending on how the dates fall, they finish at roughly the same time of year.
Most GCSE exams take place during the summer months, such as Junes, however they do vary depending on what subject it is and if you are doing resits or not. For example, module GCSEs take place throughout the year.
