Being an Electronics and Telecommunication graduate. When you enter into college, I assure you as long as you know basic mathematics, you will certainly graduate. But having a degree and having knowledge are not the same. The education system relies mostly on theoretical concepts and very little of it is implemented in practice. So unless you take active interest in subjects, chances are that you will graduate without ever being able to identify basic electronic components on a PCB. In fact majority of students cannot tell a diode from a transistor despite holding distinction on their degree certificate. So I assume it is clear that without exactly understanding the concepts, you can still become an engineer irrespective of the stream. Now, if you belong to a reputed engineering college, you have a high probability of ending up in a software job. To give you statistics, only 10% of the students from my batch got placed in core electronics companies, rest all were placed in software giants.

Now that was for people who lack interest in electronics and study just to clear the exam. If you are really passionate about electronics, you can certainly excel in the field. You can start building hobby circuits from the concepts you learn in college. Being engaged in such activities might cause you to develop some amazing electronic product which can go on to become a billion dollar product. Many students nowadays are launching successful electronics startups and not all of them are from IITs. Good practical knowledge will help you get placed in core electronics companies. You can apply for MS and work abroad too. As for mathematics, strong math's is an icing on the cake. It will help you in signal processing, network analysis etc. But you can still do very complex circuit designing with elementary mathematics, few simulation tools and clear concepts. invertisuniversity.ac.in/mtechec/electronic-and-communication-egineering/coursedetails
