IP stands for ingress protection. This rating pertains to what size of particle or type and type/strength of water/liquid immersion and duration of exposure an equipment enclosure can be subjected to prior to being compromised.

EEX refers to a level of an equipment enclosure being 'explosion proof'.

The key to this distinction is that equipment that is rated as explosion proof has some method of suppressing sparks or otherwise cooling any process contained in it to ensure that any flamable gas in the environment outside is not ignited. Flamable gas that is in the enclosure may ignite but the EEX enclosure prevents that flame/heat from affecting any flamable gas outside. This is not so with IP ratings.

IP ratings are not concerned with temperature/sparking/flashpoints but with excluding dirt, dust, vapor and water.

Something may be IP rated and not EEX rated; conversely, something EEX is usually IP rated.

What us the difference between technician and a technologist?

The primary difference between a technician and a technologist lies in their level of education and responsibilities. Technicians typically have specialized training or an associate degree and focus on hands-on tasks, troubleshooting, and maintenance within a specific field. Technologists, on the other hand, usually hold a bachelor's degree and are involved in more advanced analysis, design, and system management. As a result, technologists often take on more complex projects and may have supervisory roles over technicians.
