Technical Journalism is an accredited program many universities have been gradually adopting to help writers develop a specialization.
In the past, many mainstream journalism programs have been accused of producing "generalists" who may not have the "technical background" to cover more complex subjects important to modern society. These subjects generally include the sciences, but may also include business and other "soft" sciences.
The goal is to graduate students with the same level of basic journalism coursework as any mainstream program and require a technical minor (specialization) as part of the degree.
Technical writing is used in a variety of technical and occupation fields.
