The external housing (shell) of gate and globe valves are similar, but the globe valve is designed to serve as a regulating valve, meaning that it can adjust the flow by the percentage of the opening. However, the gate valve is not designed to regulate flow, but to stop the flow. A gate valve should always be either fully open or fully closed.

The main difference is in the form of the inner elements and the form of the flow inside the valves. In addition, the gate valve may have a rising or non rising stem while the globe valve is typically a rising stem design. The direction of flow through a gate valve is not important. However a globe valve has a flow direction indicated on the outer shell (body) which indicates the direction of flow from beneath the seat.

In a gate valve, the closure element is a plate or disk which travels parallel to the plane of the seat. The gate in a dam is a well known example. In a globe valve, the closure element is usually called a "poppet", and it travels perpendicular to the plane of the seat.

There are specific advantages and disadvantages to each type depending on the application. The application for a globe valve is regulating flow. It is not well suited for full stop isolation. The gate valve is an isolation valve and not designed to regulate flow.

The Gate valve is the stop valve & the Globe valve is the fluid Regulating valve.

What is difference between check valve and gate valve?

A check valve allows for flow in one direction and a gate valve is used for positive shut off and a globe valve is used for throttling

What is the difference between gate valve and glove valve?

In globe valve we just handle small amount and small pressure of fluid while in gate valve we can handle a large amount and large pressure of fluid.

What is difference between isolation valve and gate valve?

What is globe valve and gate valve?

gate valve is shut off valve and globe valve is regulating valve ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A globe valve is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipeline, consisting of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body. A gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid.

What valve is the preferred valve to use in throttling a gate valve or globe valve?

Never ever use a Gate type of valve for throttling ONLY a globe pattern is designed for this purpose and a needle valve

What is the function of gate valve?

A gate valve is positive shut off and used for on of off . A globe valve is for throttling

What is the difference between gate valve ball valve globe valve?

A gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a gate from the path of the fluid. A ball valve is a valve that opens by turning a handle attached to a ball inside the valve. The ball has a hole in the middle so that when the hole is lined up the input side and the output side of the valve, flow occurs. A globe valve is a type of valve used for regulating flow in a pipe, consisting of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a spherical body. Usually the globe is moved in and out of the flow by a handle connected to a threaded stem.

What is the difference between an slide gate and a sluice gate valve?

The difference is that a sluice gate is made out of cast iron while a slide gate isn't.

What is the diffference between gate valve and globe valve?

operating disc A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valve that opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid. The distinct feature of a gate valve is the sealing surfaces between the gate and seats are planar, so gate valves are often used when a straight-line flow of fluid and minimum restriction is desired. And a globe valve is a type of valve used for regulatin fluid_dynamics in a piping, consisting of a movable disk-type element and a stationary ring seat in a generally body.
