An Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is a semiconductor device that combines the characteristics of both bipolar transistors and MOSFETs, primarily used for switching and amplification in power electronics. Its main purpose is to control high voltages and high currents efficiently, making it ideal for applications like motor drives, inverters, and power supplies. The IGBT's ability to handle large amounts of power with low switching losses makes it essential in renewable energy systems and industrial equipment.
IGBT first of all is a hybrid device meaning the combination of two devices; the BJT and the MOSFET. Depending on the application, one can never say an IGBT is better than others. Typically, an IGBT is ideal for high powered, high voltage and high frequency applications

To control an Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) in a closed loop system, you first need to establish a feedback mechanism that monitors the output parameters, such as voltage or current, depending on the application. This feedback is then processed by a controller—often a PID controller—that compares the measured output to a desired setpoint. The controller adjusts the gate drive signal to the IGBT accordingly, modulating its conduction state to maintain the output at the desired level. Implementing appropriate filters and protection circuits is also important to ensure stable operation and prevent damage to the IGBT.
supposed to be MOSFET. but i also depends on your working freq.

There are times when you just can not really protect some devices. IGBT's are serious power devices. Circuitry can sense over currents, but possibly not fast enough to save an IGBT. Over sizing them is probably your best bet.
Single means there is just one. Dual means there are two IGBT's (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) inside the one package.
Renewable Energy and IGBT Inverters
IGBT and BJT are bipolar devices as the name suggest. Meaning of bipolar device both electrons and holes leads to current unlike FET where either electron or hole causes current.
At first, there was cycloconverter with thyristors, then matrix converter with IGBT...
