I can vary but it starts around 117,000 psi to 143,000 psi on the Average! Of course higher strength is obtainable depending on Tempering and Heat treating the steel I would use the main two numbers as a reference.

What is the strength of the steel?

You mean tensile strength. Different steels have different tensile strengths. The way they are made (drawn, cast, forged, etc.) is critically important to the tensile strength. By the way--steel is more important for its stiffness than its tensile strength.

the most effective way to find out is through Westermann Tables....the cross section area of all the standard mechanical manufacturing parts is given..channels.. angles etc....once you know the area and the UTS(ultimate tensile strength) of MS(mild steel)...you know the ans.... help yourself.

Is carbon steel and high tensile steel the same?

No, carbon steel and high tensile steel are not the same. Carbon steel is a type of steel where the primary alloying element is carbon, and it can have varying carbon content, affecting its hardness and strength. High tensile steel, on the other hand, is specifically designed to have high strength and tensile properties, often achieved through alloying elements like manganese, nickel, or chromium, and specific heat treatments. While high tensile steel can be a type of carbon steel, not all carbon steels are classified as high tensile steel.
