None, being "an inventor" is not a qualification. To be an inventor you need an inquiring mind and motivation in order to see your invention through to conclusion.

Depending on what you are inventing a formal qualification or background in a particular field may be advantageous.

For example, if you were trying to invent a new type of space ship, a background in aeronautics or physics could be handy, else you would have to research all the necessary skills in order to address the problems that you may (or may not) encounter in space flight.


There are no official legal requirement to be an inventor. Usually, you just need a good idea. However, it helps to have a technical or marketing background. There are many more inventions than commercial products; mostly due to marketing abilities.
