Depends.

Bicycles with external gears have chain-and-sprocket gears.

Bicycles with internally geared hubs have both a chain-and-sprocket gear and spur gears (usually in a planetary configuration) inside the rear hub.

Then there are the rather rare shaft-drive bicycles, which use bevel gears. And maybe an internally geared hub as well. Then there's the occasional belt drive bike of course. And one or two CVT designs.

What are the different types of gear combinations used in mechanical systems?

There are three main types of gear combinations used in mechanical systems: spur gears, helical gears, and bevel gears. Spur gears have straight teeth and are used for simple applications. Helical gears have angled teeth for smoother operation and higher loads. Bevel gears have cone-shaped teeth and are used to change the direction of rotation.

What are examples of gears?

some gears i found is clocks, wheels, bycicles, stick shifts, and motorcycles

Is planetary gears used for spur gear?

Planetary gears can be spur or helical gears.

Can spur gears turn horizontal rotation to vertical rotation?

No, they would need to be bevel gears. Peg gear wheels would but they are generaly made from wood and used for agriculture etc.

What is the advantage of a haploid bevel gear?

A haploid bevel gear has the advantage of lower friction and smoother operation compared to traditional spur gears. This design reduces wear and noise, making it ideal for applications requiring precision and efficiency.

What is the name tractor gear wheel?

The gear wheel used in tractors is commonly referred to as a "gear" or "gear set." These gears are part of the transmission system, which transmits power from the engine to the wheels, allowing the tractor to move and perform various tasks. Specific types of gears in tractors include pinion gears, spur gears, and bevel gears, each serving different functions in the drivetrain.

Why are helical gears more favourable than spur gears?

bevel gears are used for power transmitting between the shafts which intersect at some angel ( usually right angel) , but the spur gear is used for shafts which are parallel and coplanar.

What is the type of gear used in watches?

Spur Gears.

What is the difference between helical gear and screw?

Spur gears have straight teeth while helical gears have curved teeth. Generally, helical gears are usually quieter and smoother in operation, while spur gears are easier to make and much less expensive.Helical gears are stronger than spur gears.
