From the power of falling water. Usually engineered to take advantage of a high dam where the water level inside the dam is kept at a high level. See the Boulder Dam for example. The water is fed through turbines which then drive electric generators. From the environmental viewpoint this is ideal as no greenhouse gases are evolved, and the energy is renewable. Also once the dam and equipment are built, there are no costs apart from general maintenance costs, and operating staff costs.
