What are the 5 general components of a steering system?

The five general components of a steering system are the steering wheel, steering column, steering gear, linkages, and the wheels themselves. The steering wheel allows the driver to input direction, which is transmitted through the steering column to the steering gear, converting rotational motion into linear motion. The linkages connect the steering gear to the wheels, ensuring that turning the wheel effectively pivots the wheels in the desired direction.
