When was the seat belt invented?

The seat belt, for primary use in airplanes, was first created by Seth H. Stoner. He was in the Navy during World War II. He was a Lt. Commander based in Washington and primarily focused on how to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities of pilots taking off and landing on aircraft carriers. He worked with a team of safety engineers and the seat belt was the result of their work. The seat belt did not appear in cars until later in the 1950's.

When did the person that created conveyor belts?

The concept of the conveyor belt dates back to the late 18th century, with early designs attributed to the American inventor Thomas Robbins, who created a version for carrying materials in 1892. However, the modern conveyor belt system was further developed and popularized in the early 20th century, particularly by Henry Ford in 1913 for use in assembly line production.

What is centrifugal tension?

As with any other rotational system in a belt drive during rotation, the belt is subjected to centrifugal force. Due to the centrifugal force the belt is thrown outward from the grooves of the pulley and causes additional tensioning of the belt. The effect of centrifugal tension is that it reduces the pretension of the belt and hence increases belt slip.

What is the formula for determining the tons per hour on a conveyor belt by taking a 1 foot belt cut?

The speed of the belt needs to be known (Feet Per Minute). You would take the weight of your sample in pounds * FPM of the Belt * 60min / 2000lbs = TPH. For example if your belt is moving 350 fpm and your belt cut weighed 10.5 lbs; 10.5lbs * 350 fpm * 60 / 2000 = 110.25 TPH
