You would need to rent a peristaltic pump if you needed to perform infusion of IV fluids, or other tasks where the solution being pumped must be completely isolated from the outside environment. You could also need one if you were attempting to build a nebulizer for an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry unit.
There are a step in the right direction to being energy efficient. Although some adjustments are still being made.
