Advantages of fire tube boilers: - More residual heat in the water to allow for load swings - Simpler control systems due to larger volumes of water in shell - Water quality doesn't change as quickly due to larger volume of water
Disadvantages of fire tube boilers - Maximum Allowable Working Pressure is limited due to larger surfaces exposed to pressure, to about 250 psi - Danger of a pressure part explosion due to failure of the shell and resulting rapid expansion of the large volume of water in the shell - Longer warm-up times due to the large amount of water in the shell. - Larger footprint than a water tube boiler of the same rating. - Less efficient per sq. ft. of heating surface since less of the water is in contact with heating surface due to a larger volume of water in the shell.
Advantages of Water Tube Boilers - Rapid warming due to a much larger heating surface per pound of water in the boiler. - Easier to have a superheater if necessary - Virtually unlimited Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (within reason) - Smaller footprint than a fire-tube boiler of the same rating - Less working volume of water contained in the pressure parts - More water volume exposed to the heating surface than a fire tube boiler (more efficient) - Faster load change response due to less water - Less chance of a pressure part explosion due to less volume of water exposed to a rupture situation, plus, the rupture is usually into the furnace area which is safer.
Disadvantages of a Water Tube Boiler - Must be more careful of feed-water quality - More complex control systems for drum level necessary due to smaller water spaces, (although I have worked in plants with old marine three drum boilers with huge steam drums which only had thermo-hydraulic regulators for drum level) - Operators must be quicker on the draw when there is an upset because everything happens faster with a water tube boiler

What gas boilers alleviates the need for a CWSC F and E cistern and hot water storage vessel?
The type of professional that fixes hot water boilers is a plumber. They can also do other things, such as install and repair leaks to the kitchen sink and bathroom.
Fire tube and water tube. Steam Boiler and Water Boiler.
Condensing boilers are designed to increase energy efficiency by using the wasted heat from flue gases to heat water up before it even reaches the main boiler. These boilers are very energy efficient and are mandatory or preferred in many countries.
No, furnaces are forced air heat. Boilers are hot water heat.
wholly or partly surrounded by water
The three basic types of low pressure boilers are fire tube boilers, water tube boilers, and cast iron sectional boilers. Fire tube boilers heat water by circulating hot gases through tubes, water tube boilers circulate water through tubes that are heated externally, and cast iron sectional boilers have multiple sections that heat water as it flows through them.
boilers sometimes do use water only for cleaning and drying clothes
Sediment deposition is less in water tube boilers compared to fire tube boilers because water tube boilers have a higher water velocity that helps prevent sediment from settling on the tubes. Additionally, the design of water tube boilers allows for easier removal of any sediment that does accumulate.
The boiler industry distinguishes between domestic and commercial boilers. A boiler is considered domestic if it is with the range of a 70 kW maximum limit. Any installation above 70kw is considered commercial. This is measured by the installation as opposed to the range of an individual boiler. An installation of two 50kw boilers which are connected to the same system is considered to be a commercial installation as the total amount of kW is higher than 70.
The name firetube is very descriptive. The fire, or hot flue gases from the burner, is channeled through tubes that are surrounded by the fluid to be heated. The body of the boiler is the pressure vessel and contains the fluid. In most cases this fluid is water that will be circulated for heating purposes or converted to steam for process use.Every set of tubes that the flue gas travels through, before it makes a turn, is considered a "pass". So a three-pass boiler will have three sets of tubes with the stack outlet located on the rear of the boiler. A 4-pass will have four sets and the stack outlet at the front.Firetube Boilers are:Relatively inexpensiveEasy to cleanCompact in sizeAvailable in sizes from 600,000 btu/hr to 50,000,000 btu/hrEasy to replace tubesWell suited for space heating and industrial process applicationsDisadvantages of Firetube Boilers include:Not suitable for high pressure applications 250 psig and aboveLimitation for high capacity steam generation
Steam boilers work by boiling water to generate steam. The steam then is used to heat the engine.

dimineralised water is also preferable to tap water for use in model steam engine boilers and model engines of other types. Mineral build-up resulting from the use of tap water in model boilers can severely reduce the efficiency of the boilers if run for long periods. This build-up is called boiler scale.
