Bus bars are used in Motor Control Centers (MCC) and high voltage switch gear. These copper bars are used in place of wire that would be hard to bend and fit into tight cabinet spaces. The copper bars are easily formed into odd shapes toaccommodate connections of the incoming power source to internal equipment. The bars are easily extended if another section has to be added on for future expansion. In an MCC, if more motor sections are needed the new panel is just bolted to the old bus bars for a continuation of the power to the new section. Because of the amperage of some equipment, single wire just does not have the capacity to handle the current.

Why do they use copper as bus bars?

Because copper is a very good conductor of electricity. Most other metals aren't as good, and would cause more resistance, resulting in the bus bar heating up.

i think its use for 3 phase connection.

Why pt coil is not present in three phase watt meter?

A three phase watt meter's potential transformer and current transformer are located remotely from the metering cabinet. On large size bus installations it would be impossible to take the bus bars to the meter so it is done the other way around. Leave the Ct's and Pt's on the bus bars and use smaller wire to feed the meter in a remote accessible location. The utility company requires a metering cabinet over certain voltages and amperage be accessible to the meter reader. In some installations the metering cabinet is installed remotely on the outside of the building away from the electrical room.

What is Bus bar electrical?

A bus bar is a solid copper or aluminium bar that is used in switch gear and motor control centers. Smaller bus bars are used in central distribution panels and seen in everyday use, the bars that the household breakers plug or bolt into in a homes distribution panel. The bars in switch gear and MCC's are rated to carry a rated current. To bend a wire into the back of these types of equipment would be next to impossible due to the constraints of limited space.Additional InformationThe word 'busbar' is derived from the word, 'omnibus', meaning to 'serve all', which is exactly what a busbar does -it serves all the circuits connected to it.Occasionally, you see the word, 'busbar', spelt as 'bussbar' -this is an incorrect spelling which indicates a lack of knowledge of the origin of the word.

Can you use a 3 phase pressure washer off a house electrical system?

No, because household electrical systems are only comprised of a single phase.

Function of system bus?

A system bus is a single computer bus which historically was used to connect all the major parts of the computer. It combined the jobs of a data bus, address bus, and a control bus. Over the last 30 years, computers have tended to use separate specialized buses instead of a system bus.
