my boiler wont ignite
No. The pilot valve is closed when no flame is sensed by the thermocouple.
Pilot light would work but the main burner would not as the thermocouple proves that there is a pilot light to fire. The main gas valve would not open
When pilot light goes out, gas flows out of the pilot light nozzle. If out has continued for a long time, a gas cloud can develop around the furnace. When you go to light the pilot light, you'll ignite this gas cloud and make a big fire ball. If your basement is drafty, you might never get a huge cloud of gas hovering around your furnace. When you notice that your pilot light is out, you should shut off the gas to the furnace and allow any stray gas to dissipate before you turn the gas back on and light the pilot light. alliedallcityinc.com
Have you turned the control from Pilot to On? Have you increased the temperature setting?
Its not about size, its about controls. If the unit has a control board with IC chips, it uses a glow plug. If it uses mechanical switches, as most older units do, it will have a pilot.
Pilot light
Think it is just that the pilot light is lighting the main burner, which makes a booming sound.
1- Defective gas controller2- Thermostat/ aqua stat not calling for heat3- electric shut offTripped or defective safety device, gas valve set on pilot, bad transformer. Don`t kill yourself looking for the aquastat. That is a boiler control and your furnace does not have one.Electic good-- whatelse can I test?
There are several possible reasons why your boiler pilot light keeps going out. It could be due to a dirty or faulty thermocouple, a draft in the area, a gas supply issue, or a problem with the pilot light itself. It is recommended to have a professional technician inspect and repair the boiler to determine the exact cause of the issue.

To determine if the pilot light is out, check the small flame near the burner. If it is not lit, the pilot light is out. You may need to relight it following the manufacturer's instructions.
The pilot light goes out when the gas appliance is turned to the "on" position because the flow of gas is redirected from the pilot light to the main burner, causing the pilot light to extinguish.
Pilot gas is the very small flow/burner used to maintain an ignition flame in a gas appliance. Sometimes called a pilot light, or pilot flame, it's used to ignite the main burner.
To light a boiler safely and effectively, follow these steps: Ensure the boiler is turned off and cool before starting. Check for any gas leaks or unusual smells before proceeding. Open the boiler's access panel and locate the pilot light. Use a long lighter or match to ignite the pilot light, following the manufacturer's instructions. Once the pilot light is lit, carefully close the access panel. Turn on the boiler and adjust the temperature as needed. Monitor the boiler for any unusual sounds or smells, and contact a professional if any issues arise.
You sould be able to see it either in the open or through a sight glass. If you have a continious pilot you just look at the burner where the furnace is open. Higher efficiency furnaces have an intermitent pilot that is only light when it is needed to light the main burner. And some do not have pilots at all and an ignightor lights the burner directly.
The oven pilot light is a small, steady flame located near the burner in the oven. It is usually blue or yellow in color and is used to ignite the main burner when the oven is turned on.
