Cap, chapeau, topper, Mutze ( German). by the way the phrase ( The Cat in the Hat) of Dr.Seuss fame rhymes only in English, and German ( Die Katz in der Mutze- and it doesn"t rhyme too well in Germanic tongue. Of course, there are different styles and varieties of hats- some tradenames such as Stetson, and types such as Garrison, Overseas, Flat-top ( favored by RR men in US- Cops in France) and so on.
