I think it means to show only how much NEEDS to be shown in the story. Don't tell the reader a ton of backstory if the story doesn't need it. Don't carry out your scenes too long with too much description if your reader doesn't need it. Show only what you must. Stick to your plot arc and follow through. Don't scamper into other territories that don't help the story progress forward, and if you do that you must cut what you wrote (no matter how wonderful your writing might have been in those unneeded passages.) What I always do is save those unneeded parts. Maybe you can use them in a different story, but for the current one---use only what it needs.

To create a story map effectively, start by outlining the key elements of your story, such as characters, setting, plot, and themes. Then, organize these elements in a visual format, such as a flowchart or timeline, to show how they connect and progress throughout the story. Use symbols or colors to represent different elements and make sure to include important details and events. Review and revise your story map as needed to ensure it accurately reflects the structure and flow of your story.
