There are two homonyms, "plain" and "plane". "Plain" is ordinary, simple, undecorated. "Plane" is a level or to shave wood to a consistent surface. It is also an abbrevaited form for "airplane". The only English word that has a similar sound is the verb gerund form "playing". (accurately pronounced "play-ing", but often slurred to playin' )
