Essay writing, depending on what kind, nonetheless has a structural format. For instance, if it were a persuasive essay you would normall have five paragraphs: Your introduction, with thesis and plan, and perhaps a 'blue' to catch your reader's attention. This is followed by your Argument, stating your opinion on the topic- what you are trying to convince your reader of- and reasons why. The third paragraph is the Counterargument, where you state what someone of the opposite view would think, and why your opinion is wrong. Next should be your Rebuttal, back on your opinion, to prove the Counterargument wrong. Finally, the fifth paragraph should be your Conclusion, restation your thesis and plan. For essays you have those, and summaries, and other types as well. Letters can vary from professional to personal. In personal they can be relaxed, but in professional you usually focus on the topic at hand. There should be a To- whoever the letter is for/addressed to- (also in the form of To Whom it May Concern, etc.), a date, and a closing. In the middle should be your body paragraphs. In some instances, a letter may even be a persuasive essay- this occasionally happens in school.
