Shaw has distinctly reversed gender role through the characters Louka , Catherine and Sergius. We can observe the masculinity in Louka's character while provoking Nicola. Again her firmness has been lightened through her interaction with Sergius. Mrs. Petkoff has also a touch of masculinity in her dominating part over household works in absence of Mr. Petkoff. On the other hand, Sergius lacks firmness before Bluntschli. He can stand up steadily neither before Raina, nor before Louka. There is a faint touch of effeminacy.
"Arms and the Man" is a play by George Bernard Shaw that satirizes war and romanticism. The characters in the play, such as Raina, Bluntschli, and Sergius, represent different ideas and attitudes towards love, war, and societal expectations. Raina starts off as a romantic idealist but learns to see the practicality and bravery in Bluntschli. Bluntschli, on the other hand, challenges traditional notions of heroism and masculinity. Sergius embodies the traditional heroic figure but is ultimately shown to be more concerned with appearances than true valor.
