in 2003 it was report she was alive then and was being cared for by her mom, although she is in a persistent vegetative state. it also said that the family had moved to sacramento to be with lia's elder siblings. her family was report as being well and her siblings are moving on in life and attending colleges and university. the family are very private and doesnt care for the attention from the book but appreciate that the book has made profound changes to culutral understanding and medical needs to other cultures.
