The word "verses", meaning a stanza of a song, poem, or book, is sometimes abbreviated "v" or "v."; e.g. "verses 3 to 10" could be written as "v. 3-10"

Be VERY careful not to confuse "verses" with the soundalike word "versus", meaning "against" or "in contrast to". In legal decisions it's also sometimes written as "v", as in "Plessy v. Ferguson" but in common writing it's more often abbreviated as "vs"; e.g. "What are the advantages of LED vs. CFL bulbs?"
