The word assassin is derived from the Arabic word Hashshashin which is used to describe somone that uses the drug hashish (Cannabis). The first Assassins were a Shia Muslim sect that killed their rivals and foreign powers that sought their destruction. They preferred to kill with a dagger or hidden blade as opposed to poison, bows and other weapons which the target could survive from. It was often belived that they were high on Hashish when they preformed their assassinations which is the source of their name. The assassins last fortrest was destroyed by the Mongol leader Holagu Khan.
