In my opinion, the main message of this story is the unlawfulness of our society and the insincerity of the people with their duties. Very few people are responsible here. The majority of the people are taking the advantage of other's simplicity. If everyone here will become honest then the name of our country will be present in the list of most successful countries in the world.
It means that you can be trusted (worthy of trust). It can mean reliable, dependable, or loyal. Other synonyms are honest, honorable, or faithful. Example: If you are a trustworthy person and someone you care about does not trust you for some reason it would be hurtful.

unfortunately, i think it is. people are being less honest with other people, and more importantly, themselves. to say you are completely honest always is being dishonest!

Democracy runs on people being honest, helpful, and trustworthy. They all need a lot of people being respectful and all that to make the democracy work. See the democracy is like a battery and when the batteries power runs low it refuels off of honest people doing good deeds.
People can show that they are trustworthy by letting you trust them and them trusting you.

My niece is named Anna. She is beautiful, smart, funny. She is reliable,honest, trustworthy. She can be stubborn at times. She believes in right and wrong and does not have patience for people who break the rules. She will tell you just how she feels about something. What you see is what you get with her. She is confident and loyal. She will fight to the bitter end for what she believes in. If you are loyal to her she will stand by you no matter what. If you cross her she will be done with you after she lets you have it.
In Western countries two people shake hands as welcoming each other (generally men do this) or to seal a deal and is suppose to represent an honest and trustworthy end to a deal.
Humans, no matter what their race or nationality are all capable of doing harm as well as good. That's why it isn't right to speak in such generalities as an entire nation being evil. This leads to stereotypes and bigotry.
