Add some anecdotes (meaningful stories) to which your listeners can relate. Example: You have to give a speech on the technical aspects of how paint dries; you can add a story about how someone sat on a painted bench before it dried.
Maybe add some jokes in the speech, which doesnt make fun of anyone major. Also, don't drag on too much about one subject and don't keep changing the subject. You might want to get someone to read the speech to you so you can see how it sounds with someone listening. Add some adjectives and interresting words so it draws people in.

What I do is I made a sheet that says "sign this if you are angry at your homework" whenever I get stuck on a problem or the homework is way to boring, I sign the sheet.
