Her name is pronounced "MOR goz".
!
Morgause I have read stories about Morgan being his mother and raising him, but it is usually Morgause as the above states.
morgause
Morgause, the North Witch.
In some versions, her son Agravaine in others her son Gaheris
Sir Mordred was the son of Morgause (also known as Anna). Morgause was the half-sister of Arthur, having been the daughter of Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall and Igraine (whom Uther Pendragon took for his own after defeating Gorlois). It is speculated in some writings that Morgause and Arthur were not aware of their relationship at the time of Mordred's conceiving. As with all Arthurian legends there are numerous different interpretations of the story.
This is disputed.. it was one of the Duke or Tintagel's daughters. Either Morgause or the infamous Morgana le Fay.
In traditional Medieval romance versions, Gaheris kills his mother when he finds her in bed with Lamorak, her much younger lover. Gaheris is incensed that his mother loves the son of Pellinore--who had killed King Lot many years before. Lot being Morgause's husband and the father of 4 of her sons, including Gaheris. (Morte d'Arthur and Vulgate cycle) I believe TH White is the first author of modern Arthurian fiction to change this and has Agravaine guilty of matricide by beheading her.
In "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White, Queen Morgause is the mother of several key characters, including Gawaine, Agravain, and Gareth. She has a complex and often manipulative relationship with her sons, raising them to seek power and revenge, particularly against King Arthur and his knights. Morgause's influence shapes their identities and motivations, leading them to embody traits of loyalty, ambition, and conflict. Her actions ultimately contribute to the tragic downfall of both her family and Arthur's kingdom.
A lot of people say that yes, Morgan the Sorceress was Mordred's mother. She had an affair with King Arthur, her half-brother. Others insist Morgan's sister, Morgause, was Mordred's mother. I like to think it was Morgause, because Morgan is my favorite character and not the kind of person who would have an affair with somebody.
Mordred isn't Morgana's son, he is Morgause's (Her Half Sister.) and Arthur's (Her Half Brother.). Mordred eventually kills Arthur in a battle.
